About

Diana Sherene RAisbeck, ea

First off, everyone calls me Sherene, always have. Mrs. Raisbeck is my late, former, mother-in-law. And they only call me Diana on the first day of school and at doctor’s appointments.

I’m an Enrolled Agent. What’s that?

Here’s how the IRS puts it. The link at the end of it will take you off our pages to let you read more, if you wish.

“An enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.
Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), have unlimited practice rights. This means they are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before. Learn more about enrolled agents in Treasury Department Circular 230.”

I’m a lifelong geek. My BS is in Mathematics, but I took those Accounting, Business & Ethics courses too. For decades, I’ve been the one who did the tax return when someone died (instead of bringing a casserole) and did the 990 for the non-profit and the 1065 for the investment club.

For the past few years, if you wandered into the right chain tax preparation firm, or called for help preparing your own taxes, you might have been lucky enough to work with me. I know taxes: federal taxes and many states. I’m located in Massachusetts but can file your return with any state, or with multiple states or without a state return if your state does not require one.

The IRS code is incredibly complex and ever changing. I understand it well, and I know how to research what I don’t know, to consult with experienced colleagues, or to refer you to a specialist at need. The Wealth Geek has an excellent professional network and the same research tools that the giant tax preparation companies use.

One of my professional organizations requires 30 hours of continuing education, 6 more than the 24 hrs the IRS requires. My total for 2022? 84 hours. I love to learn about the code, strategies and current IRS focus areas.

What don’t I do? Bookkeeping. I can help with your year-end journal entries if you do your own, or help your bookkeeper if they don’t have the right training for those tax adjustments, but I don’t do general ledgers any more. I cut my teeth on them nearly 40 years ago. If you need a bookkeeper, or some consultation to use your bookkeeping software, I’m happy to refer, but I don’t want your receipts!

wealth geek is a virtual practice

If you are located within Middlesex County, MA, you may choose concierge service and the Wealth Geek will come to your home or business. Most of our clients use our portal to provide information and we provide recorded video wrap up for compliance, or live video consultations for planning and resolution.

You are responsible for paying all taxes that you owe by the applicable deadline. Filing extensions are available, but they are not extensions for payments. We recommend making payments with the IRS and or state taxing authority online; when you make them, using the primary Social Security or EIN number, or via ACH with efiling.

If you have time constraints, or lack the required documents to file for the spring deadline, extension is a great tool. The Wealth Geek can file your extension for you. Filing an extension does not increase audit risk and is a tool that should be used when the April filing deadline is difficult for you for any reason. There are no penalties or interest for returns due a refund filed on or before the fall extension deadline. Ensure that you don’t owe, and then let Wealth Geek worry about the rest!

Extension filing is available for all clients for a $100 deposit, fully credited toward your completed return, with signed engagement.
